Book Day Fun

What a great time we had on Friday with our annual Book Day Parade! The children turned out as their favourite book character and we joined the whole school with a walk around the block. After we wrote some stories we enjoyed Captain Carson's book reading.

Sportsmanship

Room 15 students have been thinking about what Good Sportsmanship looks like, sounds like, and feels like. We created a padlet with our thinking.

Matatihi - Maia's Journey of Bravery

Our tamariki enjoyed the performance today from our friends at the Court Theatre with this year's show, Matatihi - Maia's Journey of Bravery.
The wonderful thing about this performance was that it incorporated all four disciplines within the Arts - Dance, Drama, Visual Art, and Music.
It's not an easy task to keep over 400 students engaged and focused for 40mins but Kim, Albany and Jane did it beautifully, and we loved it!
Thank you to Kim, Albany and Jane for an amazing performance.

Tom gets to try on Pouakai's mask

We loved these props!

All the props are made from recycled materials - Titi was made from an old mop.

It's been a big day for Pouakai

This performance was based on a lot of different stories from people in our local area who have been brave and who have a story to tell.
When did you last feel brave? Who helped you to feel brave?

More Maths Talk about Multiplication

Students in Rooms 14 and 15 have regularly been coming together to solve a variety of multiplication problems. We have been using coins and counters, happy 100's, large dotty arrays, and simple arrays to show our multiplication facts. It is always a busy hour and the children love to share their thinking.
Check out Mrs Dent's video and also view the photos of the students in action.
We love maths!

Hannah and Samantha enjoyed sharing their maths problem about 8 groups of 6.

Look at all the maths we found in this array.

Watching Our Waste

Ready to learn about rubbish!
It's all go in Room 15! Back from camp and back on the bus to visit the CCC Metro Plant in Bromley as part of our Sustainability unit. In the classroom we have been looking into processes that help us to minimise the amount of rubbish we are producing. The programme that we had was focused on the Organics Processing Plant and gave us an inside look at the process that is involved in treating organic waste. The programme made the children want to investigate and establish their own 'waste free' environment and we all had a lovely afternoon and learned a lot!

Think about what you do with your rubbish and try to reduce it as much as you can. We need to look after our beautiful planet!

Chris taught about the 5 R's of waste disposal

Look how much extra plastic there is in the mini chip bags!

Chris loves his compost

Hands on learning

Lovely warm compost in the making

Chris shows us the worm farms

Tiger worms - why do you think they are called this?

What a great way to dispose of our organic waste

Eadie and Ali getting up close and personal with the worms

Lunchtime!

Chris is pointing out where all the Red Bin waste goes

Lots of plastic going to the landfill

How would you reuse this rubbish? You'd be amazed at the ideas Room 15 children had.

Lukah is thinking hard about some other uses.

Someone else could be wearing these!

Chris was impressed with our new ideas about recycling and reusing
